My Monthly Weigh In Report – May 2013
I can’t believe a month has rolled around already, where does the time go aye, almost half way through the year already!
Well I wrote a pretty interesting article about Muller light yoghurts, looking at how many we can safely eat due to the high sugar content. I’m really happy it was well received, and got some really positive comments on Instagram.
It’s the first time I’ve got any proper feedback on an article, and it was because I had helped someone; it felt amazing knowing what I had written helped someone:-)
Apart from my own personal reasons, helping others is the reason I set this blog up, I want to help as many people as I can.
Aside from my muller light article I started a series of posts about bulk preparing sandwich filings. For me, they’ve been nothing but a god send. Making my sandwiches have never been so quick, cheap and easy.
So far in the series, which I will be adding to is, egg & bacon, chicken and bacon and seafood mix, I recommend you taking a look at them if you haven’t already.
Monster bike rides
I started biking a little more this month; me and Nathan went on a huge bike ride out and about, we had a goal of 10 miles in our heads, and although I want to complete it I thought it was going to be killer, surprisingly it wasn’t. We took our time and completed the whole 10 miles 1 hour 22 minutes, which isn’t to bad for a first try.
That ride inspired me to do more riding at the gym, and that’s what I done. My first attempt at 10 miles went well and took me 34 minutes 25 seconds!
That’s a huge improvement my previous attempt although this one was indoors on a stationary bike. It was a good time but not good enough in my eyes; I wanted to do 10 miles in 30 minutes or less. Two days later, I was determined to smash them 10 miles, and I did it!
16.23kms in 30 minutes; my average speed was 32.46km/hr or 01:51min/km is it me or is that mad!
My first real run!
I’ve told you this before but back when I first started slimming world and my weight loss journey, me and my mum went for a run (wishful thinking!), and I couldn’t even run for 90 seconds straight.
I’ve been training and consistently pushing myself now for 8/9 months, and this month I went for a run “on the streets” again just like I did before, but this time there was one very big difference, I ran constantly, without stopping for 9 minutes 12 seconds! Total distance, 1.4kms.
I’m really happy with that, even though I can run for 25 minutes on the tread mill consistently. Running outside in the elements, I’ve found is completely different, and to have gone from 90 seconds to 9 minutes 12 seconds in about 8/9 months is great progress I’m really happy with.
Boat loads of room
I had a massive shock when I went to the cinema with some friends, something I haven’t done in a long time. We went in, bought our tickets like normal, chose a seat, sat down and BOOM that’s when I noticed it.
I had a boat load SPACE around me! Literally I had bags of it either side of my legs, I was so shocked and so were my mates. They remember a time when I used to fit snugly in the seats, thighs touching each side, with no room to move! I’m loving little surprises like that!
Adding a little variety
I’ve been trying to add a little variety to my food, but admittedly it’s not going well. I know I need to be eating more salads, vegetable, rice and pasta to fill me up and give me all the nutrients I need, but I just find it so hard. I tend to stick to meat, eggs and potatoes because their so quick and easy.
Next month I’m gonna to try and come up with a way of eating everything I need while preparing them quickly and easily to save me time.
Catching up with old friends
Me, Stuart and Paul all got together for the first time in months which was really nice. I think it’s the first time I’ve seen Paul since I started my weight loss journey and the last time I saw Stuart was when I’d lost about 2 stone.
To say they were shocked, surprised and impressed would be an understatement, they couldn’t believe how much weight I had lost and what I looked like now, they said I was looking so much better & healthier (always nice to hear!).
It was funny to see Paul quite speechless; he does a lot of weight training, just look at his muscles their massive! He want’s me to join his gym, where he’ll help me bulk up and start working on definition. He can’t wait to see me pumped up and ripped! I’ve got to say I’m not opposed to it; I want muscle and strength so badly.
Who’s the man?
That’s right, I’m the man!
Haha I feel so honored to have won the title for my slimming world group, especially when there are some really great guys in my group that are all doing brilliantly.
This’ll sound like gloating (because it it, but only a little!), but winning man of the year means that I’ve won every competition slimming world have run, apart from miss slinky of course!
I’ve won; biggest loser, couple of the year (me and my mum won that), and now man of the year; I told you a while back I get competitive didn’t I, I wasn’t lying!
Passed my theory!
Something other than weight loss & foods, I passed my LGV (large goods vehicle) theory test!!! I’m planning on taking my practical test later in the year, and can’t wait to start driving the big boy trucks!
My brother, Dean turned 21 this month, and we all went out for a nice meal at Bella Italia. It was soooooo nice, really I can’t describe how good it was.
I didn’t stick to plan or try an eat healthy in the slightest. I wanted to chill out, have a good time and eat some really good food, and that’s exactly what I did.
For starters, I had battered calamari with two dipping sauces, mayonnaise & tomato. Along with them, we had some cheesy/spicy garlic pizza breads to share on the table, which we well nice…white bread!
For mains, I had a double steak burger & chips! This burger was to die for; it was cooked to perfection, medium in the middle. You really can’t beat a decent burger, specially when it came with lettuce, onion, mozzarella, parmesan gorgonzola cheese! I was in heaven.
I was pretty stuffed by this point, but there was no way I wasn’t gonna miss out on dessert, have you seen what they had on offer?
Warm cookies & fudge brownies that come with ice cream!
It was like being between a rock and a hard place, I really couldn’t decide, and nor could Danny, so! Me and Danny decided to get one each and split them. That’s how we do!
The whole night was great, brilliant food, great atmosphere and wicked company.
Oh and check out my brothers birthday cake, I’m sure you can see what it is, but just in case, it was a huge, I mean massive relentless can (he can’t get enough of that drink, don’t even get me started!) my mum had it made by a woman, Alicia, she found on facebook (Alicia Sugar Strandz Cakes), who will also be doing her wedding cake in August; I definitely recommend her if your local to the Essex area.
Something I’ve really started noticing is my strength increasing, I’m by no means Arnie, but I can definitely feel my body getting stronger, in particular my arms.
I’m really can’t wait until I can start weight training properly to build muscle; I’ve never had muscles, and its gonna be so cool to have them!
Before and current’s
I love putting together these before and after pictures of myself, there so encouraging and really spur me on to improving myself even more.
Heres one of me holding my dog, Daisy! She weighs 4st 7lbs (big dog!), that means I’ve lost her entire body weight! I’ve lost my dog!
Lifting her up, and walking around the house to experience the weight I used to be carrying around with me; it was shocking, just walking up and down the stairs took so much effort, and to think that used to be me every day before I changed myself for the better.
Check out this photo, I’m in my first ever pair of jeans! I’ve always steered clear of jeans as they never fit in the past, but my family said I should really go and try some now I’ve lost a lot of weight, and here there are, what d’ya think?
The top I’m wearing was a Christmas present from my brother and his girlfriend, Rachael. It was skin tight back in December, but now look at it!!! It fits a treat 🙂
My weight loss & body stat’s
So how’s has my weight loss gone this month; honestly, awful! From 29th April (last unrecorded weigh in) till 27th may I’ve lost a total of 3.5lbs in over a month (5 weigh ins).
That’s pants isn’t it, 3.5lbs in 5 weeks; sure I’ve been to the pictures and had my brothers birthday party but I didn’t think I’d been that bad overall.
I do think I need shake things up drastically through in terms of the foods I’m eating and my gym workouts; I don’t want another month like this.
Despite losing a (shockingly) low amount this month, I’ve been recording other stats that show I’m improving in other areas. This is something I think everyone should do, and not focus solely on weight.
In the same time frame I’ve lost;
1 point off my BMI & 4% body fat
These stats are by no means 100% accurate (I use the same scales at the shopping center), but they are certainly a positive indication that, despite my weight not dropping as fast as I would like, my body is changing for the better in other ways.
And lastly, Me and my mum both took our measurements when we joined slimming world on the 20th August 2012 and we’ve just re-taken them a few days ago. The results were astonishing!
Firstly my mums done fantastic, she’s lost almost 2 stone, and her measurements show she’s lost 5 inches off her arms! Can you believe that!
Now it’s my turn, overall I have lost 25 inches off my entire body! Is that crazy or what! Honestly I’m finding it hard to get my head around that, 25″ off the other size of my whole body! Wicked news!
Here’s what I’ve lost, where;
- Neck – 1.5″
- Chest – 7.5″
- Arms – 2″
- Waist – 9″
- Hips – 5″
- Legs – 0″
I’m sooooo confused!
For some time now, this month more than normal I’ve been thinking about the end result. The goal line, the fat lady singing, I could go on and on but I think you get the picture!
My ultimate goal is to be living a healthy, happy, realistic and sustainable lifestyle, one where I’m highly active and not afraid of food. But.
I don’t know if I should be thinking about a goal weight of 15/16st and then hit the weights hard to bulking up with muscle OR should I continue losing weight to 12/13st and then bulk & tone with weights?
Apart from that, I’ve also been thinking about my body fat percentage and BMI, should I be focused on getting them into the normal range and forgetting what I weigh? You can see I’m confused, can’t you?
A lot of my friends and family think 12/13st would be too skinny for me and my body frame. They think I should go for the 15 stone mark, and this isn’t them trying to sabotage me, I’m sure their genuine, with my best interests at heart.
The thing is I’m so scared of doing something the wrong way, wasting months of time and hard effort, and then realise I should have done it another way. I’m also concerned about loose skin, and want to try and avoid it as much as physically possible.
I’m really torn, not just with my friends and family’s opinions, but also from a guy I noticed at the gym the other day, he had muscle and was really slim, I’d guess 10/12 stone. He looked ok, but it was just too slim in my honest opinion, I thought weight/size/look would be good for me in my mind until I saw him, but now it’s kind of put me off going that low.
The other things that got me was when I went to see the new fast and furious movie (mad action scenes but definitely worth a watch), I really got caught up in the “tough guy, muscle” look. Vin Diesel & Dwayne Johnson look freaking amazing in the movie, their so ripped and pumped. I’m not saying I want to be exactly like them, but I’m liking the thought of bulking up and becoming a monster, in proportion for my height and frame.
Am I being stupid and thinking too much into it? I really want to hear your thoughts, what are your goals?
